Kure Beach Village and the Keys HOA’s have been contacted by the North Carolina State Department of Agriculture to assist with communication concerning the sweet potato weevil eradication program. Pleasure Island is in the North Carolina sweet potato quarantine area, and these weevils present a serious threat to the North Carolina sweet potato industry.
During the month of February, weevil traps will be set in and around our neighborhoods as well as on the entire island. The traps which are green cylinders and about 12 inches tall will be in place for about two years. They should not be disturbed while the project is in progress. In early February, flyers with additional information will be placed at the front doors of any house in the general proximity of a trap. Two traps will be located in the Keys HOA area and four to six in the Kure Beach Village HOA area.
Again, we need your cooperation in not disturbing the traps while the project is being conducted. If you have general questions, please contact your HOA president. If you have specific questions about the project, please contact the North Carolina Department of Agriculture through their website or telephone numbers listed at the bottom of this notice.
Thank you.
