The Wildlife Commission Officers visited the retention pond and observed the alligator. We will be receiving our permit either this week or next, at which time we will contact the wildlife expert to begin the process of removing the alligator.
They estimated it to be a young one of 4-5 feet long. They also believe that humans have fed this gator sometime in the past so they recommended that residents stay away from the retention pond banks as to not attract the alligator towards people.
They asked that we remind residents that alligators are federally protected. The following rules apply:
- They cannot be killed or injured
- They cannot be captured by anyone other then a licensed wildlife expert
- They cannot be fed
They are unpredictable dangerous wild animals and should not be approached
